Live the Dream is supported by a diverse range of leading thinkers who are passionate about supporting New Zealand’s young social entrepreneurs to develop their capability, connections, and ideas for a better world. Below are a few of our contributors, who get involved in various ways throughout the programme as guest speakers, workshop facilitators and mentors.
Alex is the CEO of the Ākina Foundation focused on growing social enterprise, and leads a growing team across New Zealand. Alex has been involved in Live the Dream since inception.
Vanisa has worked across private, public and community sectors, and is currently the CEO of 2020 Trust working towards greater digital inclusion for New Zealanders. She is particularly passionate about women in leadership.
Rowan is an entreprneur, a Starup Weekend Globar Facilitator, as well as a founding member of Startup Weekend New Zealand. In his day job, he is a Venture Manager at Akina.
Elliot is one of Australia’s leading social entrepreneurs and the co-Founder of YGap, which now several years into operation turns over more than $4m a year and is completely independent of grant funding.
Global Women Alumnus and the Director of Equity at AUT Business School, Agnes is strongly motivated and committed to creating a society that maximises the potential of all people.
Dave is the Investment Manager for Ākina. He specialises in raising funds and growing start-up businesses. He has a science and accountancy background and also manages Wellington’s angel investment group – Angel HQ.
Martina is a Senior Lecturer at Massey University. She assists teams with the market validation and the development of their value propositions.
Nick is the Chief Operating Officer at Kiwibank – an operations guru, strategist and investor. Nick and the team at Kiwibank are proud supporters of Live the Dream.
Derek Handley is an entrepreneur, author and investor. He recently donated two years of his life to Sir Richard Branson to help create what is now known as The B Team, as founding CEO.
Elisabeth is a strategist, project leader and process facilitator with extensive experience in the cultural, community and public sectors in New Zealand and Australia. She is the Executive Director of The Big Idea Trust.
Dave is the Venture Manager for Ākina, with range of experience across larger enterprise and small business start-ups, which gives him a broad toolkit for helping new ventures succeed.
Liz is the CEO of Philanthropy NZ and is a regular keynote sharing insight on emerging trends in philanthropy and investing for social impact.
Michael is an experienced business leader, strategist and coach focused on high growth start-ups, social enterprises and technology commercialisation. With 20+ years of practical experience in ICT, software and technology.
Shona has significant experience in social enterprise development in the UK and NZ and works as a Venture Manager at Akina.
Shay combined his passions for entrepreneurship, education, Māori development and community economics to start the Māori Development unit at The Icehouse business growth centre.
As well as her role as the Chief Operating Officer for Inspiring Stories, Natalia holds the New Zealand license for TEDxWomen, and was previously the country’s leading fundraiser for Oxfam’s TrailWalker.
An alumni of the Lightning Lab accelerator, Ants is a co-founder of Chalkle, part of Enspiral Academy, and was one of the original co-designers behind the Live the Dream programme.
Sina is the CEO of Leadership New Zealand, and is passionate about growing a new generation of ethical and authentic leaders who will make a difference to the social, cultural and economic wellbeing of their lives, their communities, Aotearoa and the world.
After various entrepreneurial ventures and a long stint at Treasury, Ben is the Founder and CEO of Conscious Consumers, a social enterprise helping hospitality businesses embed practices that result in better outcomes for society and the environment.
He is a Co-creator of KiwiConnect, building global bridges to connect world-class talent, responsible capital, and high-tech innovation to the fast-growing New Zealand startup ecosystem.
Melody is a Live the Dream programme alumni and originally trained in law. She’s focused on developing her venture, Future E, as a 21st century pen pal platform to connect students in China and New Zealand.
Anna co-founded NZ’s first crowd-funding platform PledgeMe, and a regular contributor to Live the Dream sharing her learning and challenges as an entrepreneur.
Julie is the founder of Duon IP – focusing on intellectual property strategy, education and advice for entrepreneurs and R&D based organisations.
Malcolm is the CEO & Founder of Ecostore, which has grown from a back-shed venture to a successful business making ethical cleaning products accessible around the world.
Laura O’Connell Rapira
Laura is an alumni of the very first Live the Dream programme, and now helps to lead New Zealand’s people-powered campaign platform Action Station.
Matthew works as a designer on problems best solved by the internet, and has worked around startups for years. He cofounded a start up in Austria aimed at film makers, and worked as an architect in China.
Digital strategist and producer, Helen is a regular judge on the NZ Digital Strategy Awards and runs Mohawk Media. She’s been involved in Live the Dream since inception.
Designer & social entrepreneur, Pat launched One Percent Collective to grow the generosity movement in New Zealand. He’s a regular speaker sharing his learning and challenges so far.
Chris is the National Youth Coordinator for World Vision and has been a strong supporter of the Live the Dream programme since inception.
Nandini “Nanz” Nair
Nanz is a talented young designer, currently leading the design work for Inspiring Stories, and having collaborated on a range of social and graphic design solutions for organisations large and small.
Jamie is an entrepreneur, the co-founder and now Chief Operating Officer at Wellingon-based tech company Storypark, which is changing the way that families connect and support their children’s learning.
A project and events management extraordinaire, Pippa is the Assistant Director for Inspiring Stories’ flagship national event, Festival for the Future, and Events and Community Manager for the Auckland chapter of Live the Dream.
Will has founded a number of startups in the tech and mobile space over the last 12 years, most recently launching Bucky Box, a social enterprise that’s empowering local food enterprises.
Rich has a background in open-source engineering, education and community organising. This diverse skill-set sees him contributing to each facet of the Loomio project, including coding, coordination and communications.
Geoff has 15 years experience as a performer and corporate trainer, specialising in presentation skills, creative thinking and team building. He is also a writer and economist, having co-authoured 4 books with Gareth Morgan.
Emilie is part of Empathy, a business design consultancy in Wellington. She is a Stanford trained designer, and is helping out as a mentor throughout the programme.
Logan Elliott is the Managing Director of Highly Flammable Ltd – creative entertainment for events New Zealand wide. He is passionate about Pyrotechnics, Creative Performance and Entrepreneurship.
Simon Rowell is the Founder of Innovation Liberation Front, an intangible asset management and commercialisation consultancy. He is running a series of workshops and a clinic on intellectual property in our Auckland programme.
Annette Culpan is on the board of Philanthropy New Zealand, and was prevously the Manager of External Affairs at the Vodafone Foundation. She brings a wealth of knowledge in the youth development and philanthropic space.
Daniel has a varied and significant background leading organisations and teams, including his current role as CEO of Western Mailing. Daniel is coming on board to share with our teams his experience in commercialisation, in a ‘How to validate’ session.
Jade Tang & Eddy Helm
Jade and Eddy are the duo behind Curative, a creative agency that works exclusively on projects that help make the world better. Long time supporters of Inspiring Stories, the team have come on board to share their experiences in defining a vision and values for an organisation.
CEO and co-founder of RightWay, NZ’s fastest growing accounting and advisory business. Greg is going to spend some time talking about what it takes to get a successful enterprise underway in an honest and direct manner, telling the odd tall tale along the way.
John is the New Zealand HR Manager for IBM and has been helping out with Live the Dream since inception.
Sum trained in law, and is now the Community Manager at Westpac. Previously she worked for the Vodafone Foundation managing their World of Difference programme.
Dale de Graaf
Dale is a qualified accountant and works for Enspiral Accounting. He is coming on board to take our teams through the basics of accounting and bookkeeping.
Jackson is the Co-founder of Ora Safety, a Wellington-based startup making workplaces safer and healthier. He also works for PledgeMe as their Chief Media Wrangler.
Mark is a Live the Dream alumni, a 5th-year med student, and co-founder of Auckland-based student-led enterprise The Learning Collaborative.
Sarah’s has an extensive background in youth development, and works as the Strategic Youth Advisor at Auckland City Council.
Phil is the CEO of Eyedentify, a crime prevention software startup. He is a former IP lawyer that has also previously served on several Societies and Advisory boards.
Tom is a former Deloitte consultant and is a co-founder of Eyedentify, a crime prevention software startup. He is talking to Live the Dream teams about his experiences and learnings of founding a business.
Prof. Brad jackson
Professor Brad Jackson is the Head of School of Government and professor of public and community leadership at Victoria University of Wellington.
Matty is a digital strategist and the Co-Founder of Dyer & Blomfield. He is coming in to speak to the Auckland crew about creating a customer centric business.
Richard is a lawyer who spent three years working in London before joining Bell Gully‘s commercial litigation team.
Judit is a Digital Strategist and consultant on how to create value by connecting their brands with purpose.
Henri founded Board Dynamics in 2009; an organisation which gives independent and informed advice to chairmen and directors on the effectiveness and impact of the board and its committee.
